Higher or Lower

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 August 2026

The short version. Higher or Lower has no accounts and no game servers. Your streaks, scores and settings are stored only on your iPhone. The one thing that leaves your device is advertising data handled by Google AdMob, which keeps the game free. You can remove ads entirely with a one-off or monthly purchase.

Who we are

Higher or Lower is published by AIVA ehf, a company registered in Iceland. For the purposes of the EU/EEA General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), AIVA ehf is the data controller for the limited personal data described in this policy.

What stays on your device

The following is created and stored locally on your iPhone. It is not transmitted to us, and we cannot see it:

You can erase all of it at any time in Settings → Your data → Reset all progress, or by deleting the app.

What we do not collect

We do not operate accounts, leaderboards or analytics servers for this app. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos or precise location. We have no login, and we do not build a profile of you.

Advertising

The game is free and supported by advertising delivered through Google AdMob. To show ads, Google may collect and process:

Google acts as an independent controller for much of this processing. Its practices are described at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and in the Google Privacy Policy.

Your choices about ads

Purchases

Ad-Free is sold as a one-time purchase or a monthly subscription. All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see or receive your payment card details, billing address or Apple Account credentials. Apple tells the app only whether a valid purchase exists. Apple's handling of your data is covered by the Apple Privacy Policy.

Notifications

If you opt in to the daily reminder, the notification is scheduled locally by your iPhone. No push server is involved and no data about you is sent anywhere. You can turn it off in the app or in iOS Settings.

Children

Higher or Lower is a general-audience trivia game. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal data to us, contact support@aiva.is and we will delete it.

Legal bases for processing (EEA/UK)

Showing personalised adsConsent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you may withdraw at any time
Delivering purchases and honouring Ad-FreePerformance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b))

Retention

Data stored on your device remains until you reset your progress or delete the app. Advertising data collected by Google is retained according to Google's own retention schedules, described in its privacy policy. If you email us for support, we keep that correspondence only as long as needed to deal with it.

International transfers

Google may process advertising data outside the EEA, including in the United States. Google relies on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework for those transfers.

Your rights

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Because we hold almost nothing about you, most of these rights are exercised directly on your device: resetting your progress or deleting the app removes your data immediately and permanently.

For advertising data held by Google, please use Google's own tools and controls, as we cannot access or delete it on your behalf.

To make a request of us, email support@aiva.is. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. In Iceland this is Persónuvernd, the Icelandic Data Protection Authority.

United States privacy rights

We do not sell personal information for money. Under some US state laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended, showing personalised advertising can count as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. You can opt out by declining the App Tracking Transparency prompt, by using the in-app privacy options where offered, or by purchasing Ad-Free.

Security

Because your game data never leaves your iPhone, it is protected by your device's own security, including the passcode and encryption provided by iOS. Any request that does leave the app is sent over an encrypted connection.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles data — for example by adding online leaderboards or optional accounts — we will update this page and change the date at the top before the new version ships.
